Bioinnovation with Polymers

The Bio/Polymer Research Group (BRG) has a focus on the production, characterisation and potential applications of novel polymers for medical and environmental applications. We have expertise in the design and synthesis of polymeric materials through biological and synthetic means. Polymers are produced for potential applications as biomaterials for pro-active wound scaffolding to promote tissue regeneration and directed drug delivery. Biopolymers are synthesised through bioprocessing to produce bioplastics and environmentally friendly anti-fouling coatings.

The Bio/Polymer Research Group is the home of SurgiLux®, a novel laser activated surgical adhesive designed for sutureless anastomosis.
